While our finely ground powder works for many children and adults, the taste is not always easy to mask. For ideas, see our user-submitted recipes below.
If swallowing capsules is an option, we recommend our Daily Essential Nutrients in vegetarian-friendly capsules.

Quickest & Easiest:
“A Shot of DEN”

While DEN is sugar and dairy free, sometimes a “teaspoon of sugar” helps the micronutrients go down.

Directions:

Find your favorite flavor of organic “coffee” creamer and add a scoop of Daily Essential Nutrients powder to a small “shot glass” amount for quick delivery.

  • Ingredients:

      • 4 ounces of flavored organic creamer (butterscotch is a favorite)

      • 1 scoop of DEN powder

  • Note:

You can use non-dairy options like cashew or almond milk. Use an immersion blender for best results.

Small Amounts

A number of parents have reported that mixing a scoop of DEN powder into an ounce or two (a very small amount) of Egg Nog or vanilla almond milk or similar drink can really make things easier. Be sure to have a glass of something nearby to "rinse" with if aftertaste becomes an issue.

More Ideas

One of the easiest ways our customers tell us to get children to take Daily Essential Nutrients is in a very small bite or drink with "mouthwash" (something yummy) nearby for afterwards. Pudding, applesauce, pureed pumpkin, even organic cherry pie filling in a spoonful mixed with a scoop of DEN has worked for many determined parents.

Meal Replacement:
“Banana Cocoa Smoothie”

If you want a meal replacement smoothie with the added benefit of taste and nutrition, try this customer favorite.

Directions:

Blend these ingredients with 1 scoop of Daily Essential Nutrients powder:

  • Ingredients:

      • 4 – 6 oz of chocolate almond, chocolate cashew or chocolate dairy milk

      • 1 Banana

    • If you prefer unsweetened (unflavored) milk, add 1-2 T of cocoa powder or unsweetened chocolate syrup and 1-2 T organic sweetener.
  • Note:

You can concentrate this smoothie by using less liquid and more nutrients for more of a “shot” than a smoothie or shake.

Another Quick & Easy Idea:
“Nutella Shot”

If your child likes hazlenut spread, this is a quick and easy way to mask the micronutrient taste.

Mix-In Ideas

It is important not to cook the nutrients, so they stay active.  But mixing a few open caps (or powder) into soft foods or drinks can be an easy way to get kids to take it and help mask the taste.  Here are some “Mix-Ins” our customers add DEN to:

Mix Daily Essential Nutrients powder into:

  • 1

Applesauce with cinnamon and a little creamer or milk.

  • 2

Pudding – Sugar free or homemade.  Can be made with dairy-free milk.

  • 3

For a sweeter treat, mix into ice cream or a milk shake.  You can use dairy free, sugar free ice cream and organic sweetener.

  • 4

Mix 1 cap into pre-cooked meals throughout the day.  Some parents have found this works on younger children with potato salad, macaroni salad, egg salad, chicken salad, etc.

  • 5

Mix 1 scoop of powder or 4 capsules into a spoonful of peanut butter, nutella, or honey. This is a fan favorite.

Drink Mixers

Daily Essential Nutrients can be mixed into certain drinks for easier consumption.

Mix DEN Into:

  • Chocolate milk
    High-pulp orange juice
    Vanilla almond milk
    Fresh apple juice
    Eggnog
    Strawberry milk

  • Note: Many parents have had more success with children taking highly concentrated, smaller amounts of liquid for a “shot” of DEN, with a “chaser” of milk or juice (or water) afterwards. For instance, 1.5 scoops in 2-4 ounces of chocolate milk or vanilla almond milk twice a day will get you the full dose requirement. Some parents have also reported that using a large medicinal oral liquid syringe works well for more dependent children.

Difficulty in swallowing capsules or tablets can have huge implications for a child’s health and for a family stress level, especially in families already challenged by life-threatening illnesses.
